THE MONKEY MENACE
I have been writing about this in vain and as usual the government will wake up
when it is too late. The other day I saw a monkey sitting on one of my garden
trees. I could not shoo it away! By reducing forest cover drastically, their
habitat and access to food is denied. Our villages are already plagued with
destruction of crops, fruit trees and damage to roof tiles. They are not scared
of humans and there is an epidemic of KFD and other diseases will follow. The
monkey menace has touched dangerous proportions in Pernem. Monkeys are
surveying the place in Panaji. It is high time the government is alive to this
problem and acts to prevent proliferation and thinks of protection to its
citizens from this menace before it gets out of hand!
