Letter to ECI self explanatory.Whereas there is prompt ack by ECI, nothing at all from our CEO or Goasec! Your message To: Gopalaswami N. Cc: CEO Goa; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Feedback to EC Sent: Tue, 15 May 2007 11:07:54 +0530 was read on Tue, 15 May 2007 12:35:43 +0530 ----- Original Message ----- From: John Eric Gomes To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, May 15, 2007 11:07 AM Subject: Feedback to EC Sir, Regarding Banners/hoardings, it is reported that the EC had discussions and all parties but one agreed that election posters should not be put up. The EC must be VERY STRICT in Goa on preventing defacement of public and private property! We, the public, breathed a sigh of relief when our walls, traffic signs, transformers and electrical posts etc were not plastered with posters and huge banners costing thousands which were flying all over, making Goa ugly, blocking the view/breeze, causing hazards and thereafter pollution. Banners definitely must be banned, at least from roads and other such public utility spaces. Secondly regarding manipulation of elections/electoral rolls, dependence on bureaucracy that owes allegiance to the ruling party must somehow be curtailed! Census taking and deletion of names , on which I can authoratively speak being a victim and having gone through the processes, ( my case is with the CEO and GSEC), needs investigation and corrective action and consequences for those responsible being stringently implemented as deterrent! I understand from CEO interview published, that 10% increase in electoral rolls is normal. I NOTICE , after speaking to many citizens , that there is 10% deletion of names , mainly of the minority community, for inclusion of migrant labour/vote banks to be included during Census taking. THIS IF TRUE, IS SERIOUS! Mr. Anthony Correa Alphonso, very prominent senior citizen from Benaulim was also shocked like me, to notice his family and whole storied buildings excluded from the rolls! This happens every time fresh census is taken before an election! Lastly, it is reported that the just held UP elections had low voter turnout. This will also happen in Goa unless the disillusioned citizens are refranchised, there is better supervision/policing by the EC representatives, proximity of booths is ensured, and procedures streamlined. Low voter turnout is dangerous for Democracy, because we may get someone elected with say only 20% of the total votes strutting about as the peoples representatives , challenging the EC and Supreme Court ? ------------------------------------------------------- Goanet recommends, and is proud to be associated with, 'Domnic's Goa' - A nostalgic romp through a bygone era.
