COMMENTS: Sangeeta, to say the least, is very much wrong in trying to project her vested-interest views on the Goan public. No sane State or a Country will bank on the Tourism Industry as its mainstay. Goa's economic mainstay is AGRICULTURE. And it was agriculture that was Goa's mainstay for long and well into a couple of decades after 1961. But then, the un-enlightened vote-bank politics of Dayanan Bandodkar decimated this status of Goa with the enactment of the devastating Agricultural Tenancy Act, 1964. Since then, Goa has shifted its economic sights on elusive Tourism Industry which has destroyed Goa to the most extent. Goa will do well to re-think its priorities and shift back to its original agriculture economic status and be less and less dependent on agricultural products from outside. No doubt, Tourism and Mining are Goa's parallel economies. Sustained mining policy and a well planned Tourism Policy will be the crutches of the Goan economy to lend a helping hand in giving Goa its dependable Agricultural Economy status. It is said that one cannot survive for long on a half-empty stomach. And BTW, if United States of America is enjoying the status of the World Power today, it is because of its strong back-bone, its Agriculture. And, if push comes to a shove, U S of A can feed the whole world in an emergency. We still remember the U.S's PL-84 Policy where wheat was supplied to India, Bangladesh, etc. for free. All that had to be done was to send one's ships to the U.S. and get loaded for free.
