------------------------------------------------------- CONVENTION OF THE GOAN DIASPORA FROM GOA INTO THE WORLD Lisbon, Portugal June 15-17, 2007 Details at: http://www.goacom.org/casa-de-goa/noticias.html -------------------------------------------------------
<On the development Front the best effort was by Monserrate, the worstby Luizinho Faleiro; these figures were compiled by oHERALDo. :-Development in Const. Babush Monserrate 55%Luizinho Faleiro 20%. I Believe both the gentlemen you refer to are easily worth 4,000 crore! I also believe that Monserrate was already a wealthy gentlemanbefore he took up Politics; apparently made his money by owning largetracts of land. I don't know how Luizinho Faleiro made his money; the papers have notbeen kind to him - suggesting, for instance that Zug Island was boughtfor a pittance and then converted for development.>[Gabe Menezes] To clarify, the two names were mentioned by Gabe in his original post. In my response, I merely added the nugget of Rs 4000 crore to one of them whom I didnt name. Now he presumably says that both the guys are worth Rs 4000 crores each. To put this in perspective, recently it was reported that the five top Indian IT companies had a total cash hoard of Rs 20,000 crores among the five of them. They of course have revolutionised the image of India around the world in the process. Our guys in Goa seem to have only given the word "development" a nasty name! I gather that in Gabe's eyes Monserrate mostly inherited the wealth attributed to him despite recent record breaking achievements in "development". Luizinho's wealth, he suggests, may be ill-gotten in comparison. Goanetters at least should be clear about such 'subtleties' even if as Gabe says the rest of the populace takes things lying down. ------------------------------------------------------- Goanet recommends, and is proud to be associated with, 'Domnic's Goa' - A nostalgic romp through a bygone era. This book is the perfect gift for any Goan, or anyone wanting to understand Goa. Distributed locally by Broadway, near Caculo Island, Panjim & internationally by OtherIndiaBookStore.Com.
