Folks,
One of the more famous quotes of Idi Amin is, 'There is freedom of speech, but
I cannot guarantee freedom after speech.'
During the time it was made, there was only one outlet for the daily dose of
propaganda in Tanzania and that paper was read thoroughly. Even at the time, I
thought Amin nailed the situation in Uganda on the er, head.
Leaders of the former British colonies found that they received a most
excellent gift from the departing British i.e. they could appoint themselves
head of any Ministry and run it by themselves. Some African presidents followed
in the footsteps of Churchill - who appointed himself Minister of Defense - at
a time when Britain did not have a defense Ministry. Other Presidents followed
the money and appointed themselves to run what mattered most.
Fast forward 40 years and Amin has returned, incarnated in the body of Donald
Trump. Ugandans are now laughing as the US President presents US values to the
world.
This has been a great week for those who view life as a great comedy! Donald J.
Trump attacked the Department of Justice, firing the FBI director in the most
humiliating way possible. His next step was to inform the US that if the next
FBI director did not swear total allegiance to the Donald, that idiot would be
publicly humiliated too - and - by extension, any person working for the US
govt. The Donald, praise be to him, has given ample warning that any govt
employee not totally grovelling at his feet, would be subject to the same fate
or worse.
The incarnated Amin and the Republican party are well their way to castrate US
institutions. I have $$$$ to bet that after the Dept of Justice is dully
silenced, the next step is to get the subservience of the Dept of Treasury :-)
