Dear Tony, Your last line reminded me of an angry boss reluctantly giving a departing employee a character certificate when the boss is quite sure the person will be a liability wherever he goes! I read it to mean: "Okay, you've decided to go ahead with it. Now go and hang yourself anyway!"
Let me assure you that I'm only trying to play the role of glue here, in keeping all interests together. There are others who recognise the value of Goanet (still!) and I'm only responding to Roland Francis' thread, for instance. I get your point. Cyber-bullying is something which has remained undefined and undiscussed on many networks. The issue you raise is a relevant one. At least, it was. But now times have changed. I could surmise that: * We are all almost 25 years older, so are raging testosterone levels are not as out of control as these once were. * There are many other networks in cyberspace (especially on Facebook and WhatsApp now), So if you want to see real wild (communal, BJP-versus-Congress-ism in its worst forms), I would say the 'better' examples are elsewhere. Goanet itself has come a full circle. At one stage we were faulted for 'censoring' (remembering our friend JC here) posts. At least a couple of friends quit because we were then "allowing any rubbish to go through" or words to that effect. Anyway, all that is in the past. Questions like you raise need to be addressed, I agree. There's a fine line between free speech and abuse. Also, the gap between avoiding cyber-bullying and playing censor is very narrow.... You are doing a fine job with Goanet @ Facebook, which already has 10,000 readers. (For those doubting Thomases who question our readership figures otherwise, go there and give it a check-out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/goanet/ FN [image: Mailtrack] <https://mailtrack.io?utm_source=gmail&utm_medium=signature&utm_campaign=signaturevirality4&> Sender notified by Mailtrack <https://mailtrack.io?utm_source=gmail&utm_medium=signature&utm_campaign=signaturevirality4&> On 24 May 2018 at 13:46, Tony de Sa <[email protected]> wrote: > It is, indeed, creditable that Frederick Noronha is making an attempt to > breathe new life into Goa's flagship mailing list, Goanet.
