Modi in many ways has been compared to Donald Trump except where Trump puts his
foot in his mouth, Modi stays silent.

Both have their hard-core supporters that back them up no matter what wrong
they do. A lot of moderate, even secular-minded Hindus can be seen increasingly
to have sympathy for his policies, a fact which surprises. As for the
non-Punjabi Indian Diaspora, they are solid backers.

Of course deterioration in Parliament and its committees is to be expected. Can
one expect anything different when fully one third of the members have criminal
charges hanging over them and loads of unaccounted money is used in every
election by all parties that have the money. Congress being out of power is
impoverished or else for example in Goa they would not have allowed the BJP to
buy their majority.

Is there anybody to replace Modi? Not really. Rahul Gandhi is a joke. He hugged
Modi in Parliament during the no-confidence vote debate and was then caught
winking on camera and chastised by the Speaker.

So come 2019, if you want someone better than Modi, you got to hope the BJP
wants that too.

Roland.
