So many people (martyrs in particular) have found strength and the grace of
endurance holding the Cross and gazing on it profoundly. The 2016 film Silence
shows how the Japanese authorities at the time of religious persecution forced
Christians to defame and dishonor the Cross. Many were the faithful ones who
did otherwise and went to their violent deaths. May the Cross be our strength
