A tribute to a father. I loved this book I read many years ago. It got me
fascinated with the writings of VS Naipaul. He was of Indian origin his
forefathers having gone as indentured laborers to work in Trinidad. Naipaul was
a great writer who could be so evocative in all he wrote. Things came
marvelously alive in his prose. This book is fictional but based on the life of
his own father who read Shakespeare and other writers to his sons in the hope
it would rub off on them. It did. Naipaul went on to become a colossus in
English writing though his views could be debatable. Tells us the power of
being good role models and believing in the other. His father’s inspiration led
him further and far afield. I’m sure our encouraging words can set off others
too on the path to greatness.
