While the very incomplete third Mandovi Bridge built by Larsen & Toubro is being hurriedly inaugurated today let us keep in our thoughts and prayers the families of the two innocent young lives that were lost while this bridge was under construction.
On 17th October 2015 Anil Kumar Mohto, a native of Bihar was killed on the spot when a crane owned by Larsen & Toubro dashed against him while he was standing along the road near the KTC circle. The family of the deceased is yet to be compensated by Laresen & Toubro. The other casualty of this new bridge was a young welder Sarula Sheikh, a native of West Bengal who was burnt to death on 26th December 2016 at the construction site of the bridge. The Government claims that this bridge has a guarantee of hundred years but the coming monsoons may be the first test on whether this bridge was properly designed and the works rightly executed. All that we know for now is that Manohar Parrikar and his collection agent the rags to riches Sidharth Kunkalienkar have well enriched their pockets on this bridge.
