Dear Sir/s We have a complicated issue where a cargo vessel NALINI is sitting on a rock at 5 meters dept off Dona Paula-Goa with Naphatha in her belly and we need to unload safely from this ill-fated vessel which is taking too long for our Goan authorities to retrieve and float. So far it is unknown whether there is any leak on her double bottom hull but appears quite safe so far although the weather is not favorable to retrieve this inflammable chemical presumably Naphtha. I would like to know whether your department or company has any capabilities to survey around this ill-fated cargo to understand the bottom structure of this vessel named Nalini which is grounded off the coast at around 800 meters distance having rough waves/weather sometimes. I was in the impression that your company has Echosounder ECT 400/ECT D24, ECT DO 52/ECT 032 which I suppose gives 2D/3D underwater images. Will you be able to email me the complete information of these models whether the survey can be carried out for Naphtha at 5 meters depth and how long will it take to complete the surveys and at what cost and we would like to know the bottom picture with camera and size of the rock so as to unable to tow the vessel at high seas. Was it requires water and chemical analysis before using the instrument? Also, I understand a new product is launched BT module DU-BS21 having a portable Bluetooth module technology and I suppose you don't need a cable to control to your controller PC on board. How far this system will be safe to use to our vessel having highly inflammable chemical/liquid. How long this portable equipment can be used during operation whether built-in batteries up to 100 hours as mentioned by your company would be sufficient to complete the survey with 45 Wh power? Also, let us know whether it is compatible with the imaging sonar devices product which you have launched recently on 2019-05-06 at Oceanology International Ocean, Southampton, UK Business, 17 We have come to know also there is Side Scan Sonar Infrasonic operating at high frequencies. Kindly gives us also more information on this product. Our Government is having a lot of discussions and meetings at various levels but only I find it is just assumptions and no yet any action is taken so far, because of fear that at any time this vessel may explode if there is a rupture of her double hull bottom, due to sea waves, hence we need a sketch data of the bottom to configure our strategy to tow the vessel safely without any damages or leaks. Our Institute National Institute of Oceanography I am aware that we have an old Side Scan Sonar system and no manpower available at the moment and I understand such equipment is also not available in our country. I have earlier used and participated in several deep and shallow surveys by using our old Side Scan Sonar but now itis outdated. Lets us know its cost of this instrument is available off the shelf. And the cost of hiring it with manpower. With kind regards
Stephen Dias Former Instrumentation officer at NIO-Goa Mob: 9422443110 email: [email protected] Worked earlier with different kinds of side-scan sonar which are now become obsolete and our Institute and also in our country are not available such devices to survey at very shallow waters at distance and safely.
