GOACAN welcomes the JERC Order of 10th April 2020 as its directive to encourage consumers to take their own meter reading and that the Electricity Department makes a WhatsApp number available to consumers to facilitate the same is a step in the right direction. This step will bring relief to hundreds of senior citizens and more over it will also address the prevalent trust deficit that exists between the consumers and the Department. In its letter to the Chief Electrical Engineer (CEE) on 30th March, GOACAN had requested for comprehensive guidelines on bill payments etc.and was looking out precisely for such "out of the box solutions" to be implemented for a small state like Goa. GOACAN received a reply from the CEE dated 01/04/2020 in which the key issues addressed were the publication of the List of Nodal Officers appointed at the Taluka level for handling electricity matters during the lock down period and the extension of the last date for bill payments to 15th April.
