Dear Fred 

I do recall the word "Gasslate" used to refer to
kerosene. I believe 'pethrol' commonly refered to 
fuels.

Just remembered: kerosene is "petrol" in Konkani. Some
call it
"rockel" -- does that come from it's earlier name of
