In a very mind-boggling move, Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane has appointed a very inexperienced and unqualified young lady as Director of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation. The non-Goan lady who has no knowledge of Konkani or Marathi has also been appointed by Vishwajit Rane on the Joint Task force constituted by the Government to promote investment in the State. Couldn’t the government find any Goans for these posts?
A few months ago Vishwajit Rane who is also the Women & Child Development Minister had appointed this very same lady as Chairperson of the Goa State Commission for Women. But she soon resigned to be the Health Minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD). This lady not long ago was linked with Leading Hotels which was venturing in that controversial golf course at Tiracol. Ironically this dashing young lady drives a BMW Sports car which was bought on 22nd June this year and surprisingly stands registered in the name of M/s Ahadh Engineering Constructions, a company which was struck from the books of the Registrar of Companies some years ago. In all this there seems to be much more than what meets the eye. May be the Chief Secretary who is also the Chief Vigilance Officer of the State should meticulously examine this whole issue. Vishwajit Rane should realize that Politics and public duty is about honesty, integrity, transparency and statesmanship with no room for arrogance and abuse of power. May better sense prevail in the judgment of the Health Minister, who has undoubtedly drifted away from the norms of impartiality and public duty to ensure that people get good value for money and have the best to serve them and their best interests, without favour or grace. It is high time that Ministers and MLAs act with integrity and clean hands and all their acts should be carried out on behalf of the public who elect and empower them. So Vishwajit and other Ministers have a basic duty to ensure that only the best people are appointed solely on Merit and not for personal bias or for any self-interest.
