John Gomes of B X Furtado is definitely Goan
When we lived in Calcutta in 1944 to 1947 we had very good cooks from
Chittagong with names like Goans -- they were descendants of Bengalis
converted by the Portuguese -- I know West End Hotel Bombay had their chief
cook from among these people
Obviously the Portuguese helped these people like they did to us Goans to
appreciate and improve upon their meat and fish dishes
