Zanzibar has a lot of interesting history even to those who know little of it.
Capturing it in photographs is a great way of learning about it. This guy AC
Gomes had presence in several places - Goa, Bombay, Aden and now I see
Zanzibar. That is solid enterprise.

After the British, the Portuguese had a good sense of documenting history. The
Camoes Institute carries on that tradition and the culture that goes along with
it. The Indians however, inspite of the richness of their past never had the
yearning to properly preserve it. Never learnt how, from the British, nor the
Portuguese.

The Aga Khan Foundation too are to be praised for the work they do and the
money they spend on the history of wherever the Ismailis had a presence.

Folks, For those interested, here is a link to a YouTube short video of the
exhibition. The official title was, "The Portuguese Photographers of Zanzibar"
but as the person from the sponsors mentioned, the photographers were
Portuguese nationals at the time and the exhibition was sponsored by the Camoes
Institute.
