The Republic Day today is supposed to celebrate the establishing of the Indian
constitution which became effective on January 26, 1950 replacing the
Government of India Act 1935, documents that govern India.

But what constitution, what celebration? The one that the current government
seeks to tear down piece by piece with its disregard for the rights of
minorities, the poor and disadvantaged, disregard for the freedom of
individuals and of the press, with its belittling of democracy, bringing laws
without consultation, away from public gaze?

There is little to celebrate except the hypocrisy.
