Composed in 1933 with different lyrics, the version we know was first published
in 1948.

It’s become a pop standard since, being played in dance halls, railway
institutes, the erstwhile Radio Ceylon, everywhere English songs were sung and
in Canadian Care Homes to this day where seniors will foot-stomp to it if they
can’t quick-step.

Made famous by Connie Francis, Elvis Presley and in A Capella by Ella
Fitzgerald, I chose this version in duet by Max Bygraves and Judith Durham
because of its lovely Andante pace.

There is also an harmonious karaoke duet of this song, by two Goan women, as
yet unnamed which I have put on Goanet Facebook. Worthy of listening.
