Hi Roland

Many thanks. I slipped up of course! Salazar was a leading Catholic Fascist who so suppressed fellow Goans. However, compared to the other three I mentioned (Hitler, Franco and Mussolini), he was relatively small fry---only receiving adulation from some Goans who insisted on 'proudly' uttering "Viva Salazar".

When the opportunity arises, I get tempted to remind Catholic Goans on Goanet that there have been many absolute demons among the Catholics and that there are many around like the Catholic Mafioso, and the Sicilian Catholic Cosa Nostra. I have noted that such info is deeply upsetting to friends like Gilbert Lawrence who is so powerfully inclined to deny any wrongdoing among Catholics and never denouncing those Catholic Goans who live by racist caste in their daily lives.

Well, perhaps, it is timely to inform Goanetters that, in Los Angeles this week, Cardinal Roger Mahoney, the leader of Los Angeles' Catholics, apologised to hundreds of victims of predatory priests after the archdiocese agreed to pay $660 m to settle claims over sexual abuse. Of course, previously there was a similar situation in Boston, USA.

Re the abuse by priests and the scandal of the Vatican hushing up matters where priests have made women pregnant and effectively deserted them, I write this in some sorrow as such people are all vulnerable humans in the first place. Surely, it is time the archaic Vatican finally agreed to allow priests and nuns to live normal lives by having families of their own. To this end, I would particularly welcome views on this specific point.
Regards
Cornel
PS I am well aware that there have been demons among other faiths and ideologies. Stalin, Mao ze Dong, Pol Pot etc come to mind.

 Cornel,
And how could you miss our very own Fascist in your list?

The 'honorable' Antonio de Oliveira Salazar was like the other three,
also profoundly Roman Catholic.
