How US Oil Multinationals cheat the American Public (and others too). Here is the Candian situation: We pay 40% more at the pump than US drivers do and yet the Canadian Petroleum website says the following:
“Canada produces more oil and natural gas than we need to meet energy demand within our country, so the remainder is exported. Essentially all of Canada’s oil and natural gas exports go to one customer: the United States. Diversifying markets for Canada’s oil and natural gas production is vital to ensure Canada receives full value for its natural resources, and to ensure the industry continues to support Canadian jobs, government revenues and contributions to Canada’s gross domestic product (GDP).” Even assuming our taxes are higher, it does not explain the full price difference between our prices and American prices. Oh yes, there is an explanation. Petroleum companies think they can stiff Canadians far more easily than they can stiff our southern neighbours.
