Ever since Trump took over the presidency one term ago, politics in the US
became a circus on the international stage. It’s not to say that everything was
hunky-dory before him, but there was a semblance of calm, order and system. You
knew what to expect from the world’s most powerful country and how far you
could push it.

You thought that after Trump exited, things would go back to normal. But either
Democrat Joe Biden doesn’t have the wherewithal to remove the undesirable
vestiges left by the Trump train-wreck or Trump’s influence was such that it
left many mini-Trumps in its wake, the end result was that the US is left
looking like a sad sack in a tragic movie.

This is the not the end of the country’s woes. There is a Sword of Damocles
hanging with the grim prospects of another Trump victory in 2024 which no doubt
will shatter to shards whatever has been left standing from his last
hurricane-like term.

We all hope that the US is resilient enough with a strong and decent President
leading it, to mend all that was broken by Trump and left unrepaired by Biden
who to be fair, was overtaken by a set of circumstances that might have not
allowed him to function at peak.

What brings all this to mind, is the confirmation of a Supreme Court nominee
whose hearings have nothing to do with her character or capability but has
become like everything these days, a clash of partisanship to the detriment of
the nation’s well-being.
