Obituaries per se are meant to inform those with whom there is relationship and are far away. The world at large is not interested in Tom, Dick Hary..Those who are close and interested will not wait for funeral announcements, unless they are abroad,or beyond borders. Obituaries as meticulous work of Art is misplaced thought.The size of obituaries and placement is not related to announcing the demise. When a prominent, public person like a politician passes away, people bend over or prostrate to show closeness, friendship to people in position .More than one obituary even from relatives are outlandish .Expression of sympathy by obituary after the funeral rites is really funny.It is plain public posturing and vanity display.It is amply evident that dailies are divided on religious considerations for releasing obituaries. .Neither it is for transcribing qualifications, status or achievements of family members.Eulogies, poems etc are not relished by departed .The cost is too prohibitive, cashing on the emotions ,sentiments and some dailies are laughing all the way to the bank. FULL,front page and number of obituaries do not glorify the importance of deceased.It is ar best one day wonder only. Imagine the public gossip for not releasing the obituary. releasing paIt is a fact that North and South Goa patronize particular dailies.Obituaries are forcing to take note and there is no excuse to justify absence at funeral rites and that may severe relationships.Another trend is not to pay condolence visits to the bereaved, then the normal traditions to express emphaty in person is being truncated .The current trend is use of public morgues though portable morgues are easily avaiable and free too.Parish bulletins are costly too and social media,telephones are gaining popularity and is must faster and more effective for world outreach and cost effective.Increasingly the presence at funerals is social gathering to be seen and taken note of..The tolking of local church , chapel bells do the needful, except that it is the privilege of membersWhat does it really matter of the news is known later and how many presently attend rites in response. People are at pains to explain reasons for absence.
