Goa: Ferry Crossing in less than 150 seconds
No, I am not talking about Hovercrafts, Catamaran or other speed boats but just
talking about
Goa Ferry Boats run by RND (River Navigation Dept).
Just watch this short video Clip and one will find out what exactly I am trying
to say.

What if some people needed emergency hospitalization at night?
How much it may cost to build a short bridge across this narrow river ? Rs.1
crore ? (about
122,000 pounds) or 2 crore ?
It would only require two main pillars on either side of the river bank.
Bridge would mean unrestricted people/vehicular movement 24 hours a day
No wait for ferry, No ferry-breakdown, No dangerous/slippery ramps, No RND
staff strike etc
etc
Political parties have up to 40 crore to offer per MLA (horse-trading etc)
that money enough
to build at least 15 bridges.
OK, lets see how much it may cost to run a ferryboat?
With 4+4 staff (two shifts), fuel (Petrol/diesel), Ferry Maintenance etc it
would require at
least Rs. 1 lac (Rs.1,00.000) per month.
1 lac x 10 years =120,00,000 (1.2 crore)
If Rs.1.2 crore spent on a bridge wouldnt it last for over 100 years atleast?
Last year Cong Govt built a (IFFI) Jetty near Kala Academy for Rs.two Crore
(Rs.200,00,000)
and the same never been used not even once nor it is available for general
public (see pic)

RND has at least 30 such ferry boats at about 10-15 different places in Goa
like Ribandar,
Oldgoa, Betul, Cortalim, Shiroda, Betim, Tiracol etc etc. RND running huge
loses to operate
ferry-boats in Goa. Free service to all passengers and two wheelers . 4
wheelers charges are
as low as Rs.7.
As Gov. fails to provide basic necessities like bridges etc I was wondering if
any or group of
NRIs are willing to take over. Perhaps by sponsoring bridges in their
respective villages
etc.
Thats one way of giving something to Goa.
And before I forget, can any one identify the ferry point shown in the clip and
the pic link?
