As for Alaric's case, I must say that I was lied to by the committee. I checked
with the Goa Velha Al Zuari team and found out that the manager was not invited
for the meeting of team managers called to discuss the issue. These committee
people can lie to you with a straight face. I was also informed that the team
management did not have a problem Alaric playing. I repeat, the committee makes
the players sign waiver that it is not liable for any injury to a player on the
field.
So, Alaric was denied his right because of Gulf News's boycott of the
tournament since last year. This is indeed a shame. What a game of vengeance it
plays. The Al Zuari team could have withdrawn but it would mean denying their
players to participate. During Ramadan the tournament is a big release from
boredom
I was told by another team manager that the committee thinks it is
unaccountable to no one. He feels if some people come forward to organize a
tournament on the scale the Pehla Cup is held the committee would be on notice.
In this context, one can understand why they got Bonnie back. Bonnie was the
main person involved in having the rival tournament last year. If Borgee's post
saying that Bonnie was bribed is true, it won't come as a surprise to me. If
the committee could tell me a blatant lie with a straight face, then I can
expect the committee members to go to the length of bribing.
The committee, I feel, does not believe in fairplay, an important aspect in
organizing any sport. I repeat again, shame on you.
