This Dussehra, Hindus will have to miss out on gun worship
BY HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, OCT 17 This Dussehra festival, firearm owners from South Goa especially from the Hindu community will have to literally forego traditional worship of their weapons. For, most of the fire arms stand deposited at the police stations across the district as per directives of the district Magistrate in view of the October 31 bye-polls. Most of the owners have already deposited their arms with the police, restricting their access to their guns. And, if the police are to be believed, the owners cannot gain access to the weapons as the arms are deposited as per orders from the District Magistrate. Once fire arms are deposited upon instructions from the district Magistrate, the owners cannot gain access to the arms, unless permitted by the licensing authority, maintained Sub-divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Umesh Gaonkar. He said unless there are any directions from the District Magistrate, who is an authority to issue arms licenses, the police cannot give access to the owners on the Dussehra day to worship their arms. When contacted, Assistant Electoral Officer, Venancio Furtado said its for the District Magistrate and the Returning Officer to decide on the matter. He, however, feigned ignorance whether any request has come from any firearm owner, seeking permission to worship firearms on Dussehra day which falls on Sunday. http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=2976&cid=26 Sanny de Quepem <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
