'Bhailo' v/s 'Bhitorlo' - I I am sure you all know what inspired me to write on this..
What or who is Bhailo? In everybodys language ( Goa ), the term bhailo (Outsider) referred to non-Goan. Person from outside Goa . Bhailo is also equal to Vhoilo or oilo or on-Goemkar e.g. Ghantti, Ghoro, Hampri, Sardaji, Kashmiri, Bihari etc What is the difference between Bhailo & Ghantti? Ghantti is an immigrant who comes from India (Except Goa) and mainly belongs to Labour Class.. Whereas, Bhailo could be any one from India (all classes) or abroad. So, who is Bhitorlo then? Well, this is a very tricky question ane need to be dicussed separately.(will discuss it in details in Part II) Every NRI (NRG) thinks that he/she is bhitorlo (insider) or Goemkar or Niz Goemkar and when they say that they mainly go by the RBI rule of PIO (person of Indian Origin) which says one can be a bhitorlo if he/she or either parents or grand parents was born in Goa (India). So, you ask any NRG who is living abroad or even across the seven-seas (Sat Somdir bhair).. Tum Goemkar? He would proudly say Oi, Devachem Kurpen And then he/she may starts the ladin.. Bhaile lokan ou Ganttiani amchem Goem padd korun uddoilem OK, thats enough for now, (lets stop it here as the same will be discussed in Part II with new non-RBI definition/s etc). In the mean time. let us see what or who else is often called or said to be a Bhitorlo or Bhailo - 'Bhailio Vostu' may mean 'foreign goods' but 'bhitorlio Vostu' may not necessarily mean 'Indian goods' it could also mean underwear items like Ched'di, banian, kamizol, korpet etc :-) -When a person is quite by nature but at the same time intelligent or clever, we often call him Bhitorlo or bhitorlea budhicho/Monacho or Kolea Moticho or just kolo (Fox). Ever heard of male-pigling Solog being locally refered to as Bhitorlo or Bhailo? The one with outer testicles (visibly seen) is called Bhailo where as the one with internal or invisible testicles is Bhitorlo. All male-piglets (Solog) once they are about 8-12 weeks old are subject to a compulsory operation or surgery called Kopaz. In simple words, it is a process of removing testicles (Castration of male piglet). Its very easy to perform such operation on a bhailo pigs, even women are seen now-a-days performing this type of operation. All you need is a sharp blade or razor and a oil-turmeric paste. Where as, expert or professionals are required to perform similar operation on Bhitorlo piglets where stitching is also involved. I remember there was one guy who could do it professionally, his name was Jancit hailing from Arossim-Bandar (near Casaulim-utorda border). I am sure our Utorddekar Lapit knew him well. He was so busy that people had to book him a week in advance. And there he comes on his bicycle with very short pant with belt and half shirt but never missed his ray ban day or night. I wonder if any of his sons (if any) has taken up his profession. Some Home work: - In you own words, please define a true Goan or NIZ GOEMKAR I would like to call upon FN, Miguel, Cecil and other netters. - What do we call to such male-piglet or Solog who escape the so called compulsory operation? - If male-piglet is called 'Solog' then what we call to female-piglet? - Name any one of our MLAs or Ministers who you think in Bhitorlo or Bhitorle budhicho Thanks.
