Hi Ed, I had only fleetingly heard of a Black Madonna and hence was not too familiar with the subject. Wikipedia has a pretty good write-up on it if you are interested in the subject.
Gypsies is ofcourse the derogatory word used for Egyptians by Europeans. The worship of the Black Madonna is most prominent in Egypt. As I said in my earlier post, the cult of the Virgin Mother, Divine birth, Divine King, all emanate from Middle Eastern mythologies. One of the best books I've read on the subject is "The Jesus Mysteries" by Freke and Gandy. In my opinion it is by far one of the most influential books of the 21st century. That and the "Golden Bough", ofcourse, written much earlier by Frazer. selma ------------------------------- --- edward desilva <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi All, > Can any one please elaborate on the belief that > the Gypsies believe in the Black Madonna. > ED, > Selma said: > The Cult of the Virgin Mother, predates > Christianity. > It is infact a remnant of mythology, customs and > prevailing half-truths that abounded in the Middle > East circa 2000 BCE. > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo!
