Independent candidate draws manifesto for aam aadmi BY HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, OCT 21 This Independent candidate for the October 31 bye-polls for the Mormugao Lok Sabha seat has drawn up a manifesto, promising aam aadmi of making available rice at Rs 5 a kg, sugar Rs 10 and onions Rs 5 per kg. Whats more, Adv Jawahar Dias has vowed to demand petrol at Rs 20 a litre and diesel at Rs 12 a litre if elected as an MP. Briefing newsmen, Dias said he would ensure and safeguard the development of middle class, working class and labour class families and sought public support to realise his objectives. While demanding a ban on the controversial Special Economic Zones (SEZ), Dias said around 1000 acres of land is available in South Goa which can be developed for an international airport. He said the people of South Goa require a super speciality hospital at Hospicio and vowed to provide facilities for tiatr, nataks and artists. While stressing the need to maintain and upkeep the rivers and wetlands and encourage local fishing and farming, he emphasised the need to protect the interests of Ramponcars and fighting activities. Developing facilities for seafarers and expatriates; regular training of IAS officers; curbing high tax on execution of deeds; immediate measures to control dust pollution and free education upto graduation are some of the other items on the agenda on this Independent candidate, who had contested the 2004 Lok Sabha seat on the MGP, but failed to make any impact on the electorate.
