It was most painful to learn about the death of a Goan sailor on a walkabout
in Southhampton. It was a life taken totally unnecessarily by two teenage thugs
who appear to be arrested and are awaiting trial. Such thugery does take place
off and on and especially after drunken bouts at week-ends. However, crime
against the person has decreased statistically even though it makes headlines
(rightly so) when it occurs.

The "mental well being of British society" has nothing to do with such sad
events when they occur. Even a single incident is one too many and widely
recognised as such by mainstream UK society. I am sorry to learn that you
Bernardo experienced perhaps more than your fair share of such incidents in the
six years you spent in the UK. In my case, in almost 46 years, I have not
experienced a single incident of such thugery and I wish more people would
reinforce such a view while recognising that incidents in densely populated
countries with an active media are likely to have adequate reportage of
ugly/fatal incidents.

Good wishes to you in Macau.

PS I just wondered if you visit Goa off and on from Macau. I have done so
virtually every year since 1999 and I wondered if we might meet in Goa sometime?

several occasions of British thuggery. Does Cornel have an answer?
