Conditional stay on operations of Saleli stone crushing units
NT News Service Bicholim, Oct 29 The sub-divisional magistrate of Bicholim, Mr Arvind V Bugade today confirmed his earlier conditional order dated January 9, 2006, into Saleli-Honda stone quarries and stone crushing occupations case while passing the judgment. He directed the owners of the stone crushing units to stop their activities until they take precautionary measures to suppress noise and dust pollution to the satisfaction of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Panaji. The order further directs stone crushing unitsÂ’ owners to restore the affected Devachi Toli, near the temple, in Saleli, by removing the silt under the supervision of canal officer. They were also directed to remove the reject material in the form of fine white stone powder which is carelessly dumped near the stone crushing units. The order are also directed the owners of stone crushing units to regulate their timing of operations to avoid sound pollution and are further directed to submit the fresh Environment Impact Assessment Plan containing short term and long term precautionary measures being adopted by them, duly approved by the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Panaji. It may be recalled that in January 2006, the SDM of Bicholim had prepared a report, wherein he had passed directions to the units to stop operations until details of precautionary methods adopted by them to suppress dust pollution are furnished. The deputy collector of Bicholim has prepared a report on the operations of stone crushing units at Saleli-Honda, in the presence of the Goa State Pollution Control Board officer, zonal agriculture officer, mamlatdar of Sattari, officer of mines and geology and other concerned authorities. The said operations were conducted to examine their effect on environment, health, agriculture and plantations.
