Crowning of 'Kingfisher Voice of Goa' festival
Panaji, Nov 20 Two exciting months drew to a close amid loud applause at the
crowning of Noel Clinton Aiyer as the Kingfisher Voice of Goa 2007 in the
English section and Kunjuraj Singh in the Regional language section at the
finals of the 'Kingfisher Voice of Goa' festival at Nuvem on November 18.The
three-day finale featuring singers, such as Ravindra Upadhyay, Oliver Sean,
Lorna, DJ Notorious, Vaishali Sawant, Lynx and hosted by Channel [V] VJ
Archana was well attended. Joel Fernandes, winner of the Kingfisher Voice of
Goa 2006, also performed at the show.
The winner was awarded a prize worth Rs 2.5 lakh, which included an annual
contract with Kingfisher, to perform at various venues across Goa. This
competition drew more than 1,000 participants and the event, spread over two
months, involved 10 audition rounds at various centres in Goa, two
semi-finals and the final.
Clinton is a 25-year old musician from Calangute and is in this field for a
decade, having performed several shows. Showing his excitement at winning
Clinton said, "I am very excited about this honour. Music has lots of
opportunities and I am firm in pursuing my career in this field."
Kunjuraj Singh, on the other hand is a Manipuri who came to Goa six years
ago in search of a job and is currently a full time singer for an orchestra.
He had made it to the semi-finals of this event last year. "I love music. My
dream is to go to Bollywood as a playback singer. I want to move to Mumbai
to achieve my ambition," he said.
The Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat, who was present along with his wife and
the Power Minister, Mr Alexio Sequeira, presented a cheque of Rs 50,000 each
to the duo.
The final list of short-listed singers for the English round were Lee Ann
Dias, Delwyn Gomes, Danny Fernandes, Chime, Clifton Fernandes Sharon
Fernandes, Noel Clinton Aiyer, Maria Cabral, Savio Pereira, Jerson D'Cruz,
Glen Dias and Sydelle D'Souza.
The regional languages finalists were P S Roy, Ulfa Khawja, Kavita
Hullalada, Vivek Vaid, Mukesh Garder, Anup Bannati, Karim A Mullah, Kunjuraj
Singh, Ramesh Naik, Sushil Kumar Dwivedi, Anirudy Iyer, Kamal Paigi, Sudesh
Shirodkar, Vikas Gaokar and Mayur Mayenkar.
