Maquinez Palace (Complex)

-The Palace was built in 1702 and was originally belonged to two brothers,
Diogo da Costa de Ataide e Tieve (a squadron leader) and Cristovam da Costa..
known by the name Maquinezes.

-In 1842, the Portuguese used the nearly 150-year  old Palace to house a
medical institution –Goa Medical College that was later occupied b Dept. by
Dept. of Food & Drugs Admin, Govt. of Goa.

-Today, in its new refurbished avatar, the Palacio dos Maquinezes house the
offices  of ESG, DFF and PIB..

- The current Palace is developed into two main areas:

Ground Floor: Art Gallery, Library, Programe Rooms, VIP Lounges etc
First Floor: Two new a/c Theatres/Auditorium with 235 & 75 seating capacity,
viewing rooms.. lounge strs, guest suites etc.

First Floor: Offices if PIB, Press briefing Room, Media Centre Conference Room
etc.

-The Palace of Maquinezes also houses an 18th century Chapel which was built in
1720 and dedicated to Nossa Senhora das Doris (Our Lady of Sorrows).

 It was a Private Chapel of the Maquinez Palace. In 1781 the chapel was
repaired and re-constructed and dedicated to Nossa Senhora de Victoria (Our
lady of Victory). The chapel houses an 18th century exquisitely decorated teak
wood altar with gilded work dedicated to Christ. It continue to serve the
community till date. Every Sunday there is a mass at 7.30am. Chapel’s feast in
February every year.
