I hope all is well with you.
I had saved a post of yours on Goanet of 29 Oct 2004 and have to admit to not
having understood it that well then, but that, its content has become very
meaningful following my more recent examination of the Catholic Church's
complicity in cast/casteism from earliest times of Christianity in Goa. I
therefore refer below to what you had said then in a reply to Gilbert Lawrence
about the Inquisition and would appreciate it very much if you would kindly
elaborate on the significant point you had made:
"That the Church in Goa allowed this state of things [ free entry of Bamons
and Chardos into the Church with their caste] to merrily continue speaks of the
omnicience of the Vatican...looks like purity of the Catholic doctrine was
sacrificed at the altar of expediency to keep the numbers behind the Good
Lord." Such a clue Mr Menezes, has become clearer to me now than ever before
and I am already digging into the archived evidence on this issue after noting
that, our padres prefer to be mute about such issues when questioned.
I have a number of other posts to reply to with limited time but hope you
will get back to us on Goanet re the above.
