The Garbage dustbin in Quepem Municipal council area are overflowing
,spreading rotten small in the locality as the Quepem Municipal council has
not collected the garbage from the dustbin since Monday.
As the dustbin are overflowing the garbage has been spread all over the area
thereby causing nuisance all over the town. Now in order to prevent the
garbage spreading further the municipal workers are setting fire to the dry
garbage near the dustbin or in the dustbin.
The Municipality has stopped collecting the garbage since Monday the
villagers of Pedamol were the Garbage was dumped by the Municipality has been
objected by the villagers and prevented the municipality from dumping the
garbage over there.

After opposing to the SEZ the villagers of are now opposing the illegal
mining activities. The villagers of Cavrem of Quepem taluka today forcefully
stopped the illegal mining activities of Muktar Sahik, Chand Pasha, and Tarkar
going on in the village.
It seems that yesterday evening the villagers had requested the mine owners
to stop all the mining operation in the area from today. However as the Chand
Pasha mine owner did not hid the request of the villagers. The angry villagers
in all around 150 in numbers in the morning went to the site and forcefully
stopped the mine and compelled the mine owner to take out all the mining
operation machinery from the site.
That we have given notice to the concerned authorities in the last week of
November 2007 to take action against the operation of illegal mine
functioning in the village. However the concerned authorities has not done any
thing to take action against the illegal functioning of the mine which
compelled us to act today . Claims the angry villagers.
The villagers claims that from the information received from the Mines and
Geology department no licence has been issued by the mine department for any
new mine to operate in Quepem taluka in 2007 which clearly shows that the mines
operating in the locality are totally illegal.
The villagers further informed herald that the said mines if allowed to
function then their wards will be destroyed in the days to come. As the mines
are situated on the top of the hillock while all around the hillock there are
residential houses. Even the natural springs of which water is used by the
villagers originates from the hillock. If the mine is allowed to operate then
the water resources in the years to will deplete which will have adverse effect
on the villagers claims the villagers further.
