The comparatively smooth running of IFFI this year after three previous
false starts ("Finally, just films", India Today Dec 10, 2007, p. 80). shows
emphatically that Goa CAN learn from experience. It seems to have figured
out what IFFI is all about. However this was the way it was supposed to have
been done at launch in 2004 and maybe by 2005! We are at first base only in
2007.
The challenge for next year would be to try and replicate this year's
success. Goa has to aim for repeatability. Unfortunately the prospects for
this may be tied to the government in power in Goa. If it changes then the
next group will try to prove that their old and discredited formula can be
made to work and we will end up taking two steps back.
