Festa dos Reis Magos My dear good Bess: It is by no means a caste
related/dominated event:It is a famous Chardó feast because there are only
Chardós, truly famous most of them, among the original gaumkars of Cansaulim, a
very aristocratic bunch with titles like Casa dos Morgados e tal...e tal...&
mansionsto match... Same applies to Chandor, where the same feast, the same,
January 6, day is also a Chardó event.... I have attended both very often &
then compulsorillyspent the day, at the Villa Morgados, Palácio dos
MenezesBreganças & so on... gorging on delicacies that would easilydrive any
conscientious glutton well beyond crazy... And, the hosts the heartiest...the
ladies loveliest...who, certainly, do not believe in keeping their
lovelinessbeyond the fondly groping ken... Any other than the above, in both
the villages are bhaile, the ghor-zanvoims & such... For the purpose of selling
jallopies, kaddio-bodios & revddeos there quite a few hindus...with even fewer
Muslims doing thebeef-trade... And, the pedó is the only mhar, who anyway
could/would not desire/aspire to presidentalize over the most opulent event...
Even in a very good season, the resale of coffins, verilly opulent though they
are, would hardly place the poor knave in that category.... Alfred de Tavares,
my many loves having, intermmitently, been those fair maidens of Cansaulim...
