You either love them, or you hate them.
The Goan beach shacks are a uniquely Goan innovation (and you thought
Goans back in Goa were of hardly any use!)
They have long been known for their food and their friendliness. Euro
tourists say they feel relaxed in them. Over the years, the starred
hotels lobby have (rightly) seen them as a threat and decided to block
their proliferation, using the friendly paw of the politician. So
various arguments have come forth -- density should be controlled,
they generate garbage on the beach, they overcharge, they're almost
racist to the brown skin ... (nobody says this of the more beachside
businesses catering to the more afluent guest, right)?
Anyway, I won't get caught up in too many issues here. Just would like
to share with you this very interesting photo I picked up at Calangute
yesterday (Sunday) http://www.flickr.com/photos/fn-goa/2114986269/
As usual, feel free to share for all not-for-commercial purposes. Rgds, FN
