Yes, it is a word that indicates both a race and the
nationality of ancestors. Please note that the term
African refers to the continent of Africa.

P.S. I am sure you understand how, like nationality,
race cannot be equated with caste even though casteist
discrimination against the indigenous Indians began as
racism.
One cannot get rid of one's race, and one can be proud
of it. But one must get rid of one's caste, and only a
casteist would be proud of his/her "upper" caste.
