Dears, In his "STRAY THOUGHTS" [17-23 November, 2007], Rajan Narayan wrote of "The Secular, non-political members like Shridhar Kamat" of the GBA. Under the caption of "Heroes of the Year 2007" [29 Dec-04 January, 2008] he has described Shridhar as "the committed Marxist always involved in social movements".
In the common man's understanding, SECULAR means a BELIEVER who accepts that all religions are equal ... or "cool" and MARXIST means an ATHEIST who considers all religions as as nonsense ...or "bull" However, Rajan Narayan is absolutely right as far as the Dictionary meaning of the word "Secular" goes: "concerned with worldly affairs rather than spiritual ones." The other Secular Marxist I know is Vidyadhar Gadgil. We have a common village as our mau-vaddo. :-) So does the GBA Convenor, Dr. Oscar Rebello. Shridhar Kamat is a great strategist ...and it has been a pleasure to be associated with him in the GBA through the Year 2007. Mog asundi.
