Yesterday was a day of huddles and furious confabulations
at the Marriott. The key players were holed up in the Salon
while the rest of us munched on snacks in the adjoining
ballroom. The plotters and the patchers took turns at
emptying their bladders. Even Prafulla Patel took a chhota
well-deserved pee break (thankfully he used the Marriott
restroom - I thought he would pull a ghati on us and
head for the waterline outside).
All except the valiant Digu. He stayed put, keeping it all
valiantly inside of him. It was a pathetic sight later when
Digu emerged with Prafulla. The crestfallen look, the
body language. He looked like a liege boy standing mutely
next to King Prafulla. Even I felt sorry for Digu, and for
a fleeting second, hoped that somehow his behind would
stay sown to the CM's chair after this storm blows past.
