BJP: Why blame us for Goa? 1/18/2008 11:28:44 AM BJP leader L K Advani says his party will stay out of the political mess in Goa which he says is "the Congress party's problem" In Goa power hungry politicians have incurred the wrath of the nation after they held the state to ransom and made a mockery of the electoral process. But the BJP has distanced itself from the state politics saying it is the Congress and its constituents who are to blame for the mess. "As far as we are concerned, we will keep away from Goa now. It's the Congress party's problem. Let them settle it by themselves," said senior BJP leader L K Advani on Thursday (January 17), in an open attempt by the BJP to distance itself from any insinuation that it was trying to use any and every means to come to power in Goa. Earlier a handful of MLAs virtually held the state to ransom threatening to withdrawing support from the Digambar Kamath government. "Dogs fighting over the bigger bone" For this tiny state that has seen 12 governments in just ten years since 1990, it could well be yet another bitter pill to swallow and the aftershocks of this political instability seem to be leaving their imprint on the mind of the people, who say enough is enough. "These guys are not even worthy of the term 'politician'; They are just thieves, that is all. I call them robbers and thieves and criminals. They are fighting against each other just like dogs fight over a bone; each one wants the bigger bone and that is the reason why they are fighting each other. It is only because of robbery, because each one wants to rob more than the other," says prominent Goa citizen, pop singer Remo Fernandes. But the political melodrama that is being played out Goa has occurred in other states as well; states like Jharkhand have seen as many as 6 chief ministers in a span of 8 years. And in a state like Karnataka, a stubborn Deve Gowda virtually refused to transfer power to alliance partner BJP as promised, forcing President's rule. But with voices of dissent against this kind of political rigmarole gathering steam by the day, the message to our politicians from the public is clear: Don't take those who put you into power for granted, as you won't get away with it.
