Ah, yet another alumnus of the "I-have-not-heard-of-
it-therefore-it-doesn't-exist" school.
Charis are TamBrams, true. But the Chari community
in Goa is different. I could tell you more about it, but
I recommend a trip to the Central Library.
My father's late friend Prabhakar Chari's marvelous
works of carpentry still light up our living room even
after all these decades. Prabhakar-bab was also a
dedicated tabla teacher and my brother's first guru
in that percussive art. During my young days, I have
myself played in several Hindustani concerts with
Prabhakar-bab supporting on the tabla. His son,
Ravindra Chari, is today a competent Hindustani sitariya
and is active in the fusion music circuit. There are other
well-known Charis in Goa but one example should
do for now.
Warm regards,
