Thanks Sonia. I totally blanked out on Camotim, later Camot, although
I was aware of those spellings. This is one significant aspect of the
little that Dad understood of our ancestry -- which he pointed out to
me. The land part is a horror, and one reason that individuals are
motivated in maintaining certain spellings. The others being
emotional, and class alignments. There is a lot of cache to these
names as we hurtle into our brand of modernity. A visit to the Central
Library may do wonders to my Goan existence. : )
