Mangalore: Konkani is in the air at Konkani Nirantari - Singing Continues

Nirantari Crosses 10 Hours of Non-stop Singing
Updated at 4 pm IST

There was a cheer in the crowd as the Guinness Record attempt
successfully completed 10-hour milestone. The excitement which never
diminished was augmented by the houseful audience at Kalaangan. The
Katipalla team was the privileged lot to be singing when the 40-hour
marathon completed its first phase successfully.

Joel Periera, chief music director of the event who spoke to
Daijiworld said: "It has been smooth sailing so far with absolutely no
hurdles coming our way."Group Leader: Austine M Pereira Music
Director: Joachim Miranda

The first outstation team performed at Kalaangann. The Mysore team's
presentation was a pleasure to the eyes as the team was dressed in a
uniform with the ladies clad in similar checkered sarees and the men
in full suit.

The youngest participant in the attempt to achieve a Guinness Record
was Gritia Jenifer Mascarenhas. The 14-year-old student was a part of
the Puttur team. Clad in yellow, Jenifer was overjoyed when she
realized that she was the youngest in the entire singers band of 1711
singers at Kalaangann.

"I never expected that I was the youngest," she told Daijiworld. Happy
and surprised by the sudden gush of attention on being the youngest,
Jenifer who is a student of St Victoria Girls High School Puttur,
comes from a background of singers.

Mangalore, Jan 26: Konkani Nirantari singing is going on continuously
at Kalaangann. Meanwhile, thousands of people are visiting the venue
to witness this great event and support the singers. But no artificial
drinks are served here. Do you know why?

A huge load of tender coconut has been brought here to quench the
thirst of people. Persons have been employed to break open the tender
coconut. This service continues round the clock. A simple person has
proved that he has a big heart. Eric Correa, resident of Kottara here
has donated the tender coconuts. He is a businessman and owns the
Canara Power Generators. Everyone whose thirst is quenched never
forget to thank his generosity.
