"Only reason"? I think not. I am very interested in surnames
and their associations with caste from an anthropological
standpoint and for the interesting cultural and historical
linkages they provide. I feel no urge at all to be defensive
when talking about or inquiring after a person's caste. All
this cringing anytime "caste" is mentioned is more about
political correctness gone haywire.
