Sir, Attached please find the Party's stand on the happenings vis a vis the attack by citizens on the Panjim Police Station. We are hopeful that you, as the responsible arm of the 'Fourth Estate' will discharged your obligations so that the people of Goa at large know how this Party stands on this vital issue which is very dear to their hearts. Thanking you, Yours faithfully, Sd/- Floriano Lobo Gen. Secretary/Spokesperson *** The incidents that have taken place vis a vis the attack on the Panjim police station by the citizens of Taleigao, reportedly led by Taleigao MLA Mr. Atanasio Monserrate, supported by his cronies, including the Mayor of the City of Panjim, brings to the fore the level to which the Goan society is sought to be brought to by our elected representatives. It has become a trend for our elected representatives to be involved in activities which serve only the purpose of bringing 'SHAME' to Goa and discredit to the institutions of which these representatives form a part. Unfortunately, many youngsters, and also not so young, may perhaps look-up to these elected representatives and seek to emulate them in future. It is even more shocking that the police of Goa, forgetting where it is that its duty lies and discipline begins in the performance of those duties, reportedly resorted to retaliatory action against the property and family members of the alledged main perpetrator. It would have been expected of the DGP of the police that instead of denying the actions of his police force, which were witnessed by scores of news reporters, to immediately declare that an inquiry would be instituted to verify the truthfulness of the said reports appearing in all the newspapers in Goa to that effect. Instead, the denial by the Chief of Police leads the ordinary citizen to believe that the 'goonda-like action which followed the attack on the Police Head-Quaters had his blessings and authorization. The Goa Su-Raj Party condemns in no uncertain terms any illegal activity and extra juducial, undemocratic and savage methods being employed more and more in Goa to achieve implementation of demands at all levels. The Goa Su-Raj Party also urges the DGP of Goa to institute an investigation into the allegations that the police retaliated in the like manner, in order to raise the level of discipline, morale and respect of the police force. Failure to do so will confirm what the citizen suspects and which has been voiced hereinabove. The Goa Su-Raj Party truly believes that only such an inquiry will raise the respect of the police force in Goa. End. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- GOA needs a 'REVOLUTION' if it is to see better days. Goasuraj is that revolution.
