Dear Mario, First and foremost, thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my e-mail. Normally, men do not have the time to bother about injustices against women.
My husband and I are both Goans. I am a member of a number of women's organisations in Mumbai, for the last 30 years and then, with womens day approaching on 8/3/08, it upsets me, to read about this horrible atrocity in a state like GOA, where our Goan culture, guarantees the freedom, respect and dignity of all women. Your statement, which I am quoting, :- "What made this incident different for you to make such >an emotional call for people who have no involvement >in the crime to be ashamed? > > >It is only the perpetrators that must be hunted down >and brought to justice, in my opinion, and made to >feel ashamed". ========================== is the way, all Goans feel, which is - "why should I bother, not my problem, someone else has raped the woman". But, unless, we all unitedly make a noise, the atrocities against all women in Goa will continue. Don't worry, I will be sending you e-mails, that I send to different forum when I read about atrocities against women, in Indiaa, so that you will know, that it is not just this one time when I am making an "emotional call". regards, Jane ====================================== >Message: 1 >Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2008 07:40:58 -0800 (PST) > From: Mario Goveia <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: [Goanet] rape of a woman in GOa >To: [email protected] >Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 > >Date: 5 Mar 2008 09:15:04 -0000 > From: "jane gillian rodrigues" ><[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > >Every Goan, throughout the world, must hang his/her >head in shame at the rape of a young UK national on >the Anjuna Beach recently. > > >Mario asks: > > >Dear Jane, > > >While this looks to be yet another reprehensible and >criminal assault on a woman in Goa I'm not sure why >"every Goan, throughout the world" must hang their >head in shame, rather than be as outraged as you are. >I'm sure you know that this is one among many assaults >that take place each year and I'm sure there are many >that are not even reported. > > >What made this incident different for you to make such >an emotional call for people who have no involvement >in the crime to be ashamed? > > >It is only the perpetrators that must be hunted down >and brought to justice, in my opinion, and made to >feel ashamed. > > >Jane wrote: > > >No matter what the reason every woman visiting or >residing in Goa, must be treated with dignity and >respect, or BIG sign boards should be put up in Goa >with the following comment "BEWARE OF MEN IN GOA" > > >Mario adds: > > >I agree 100% that every woman must be treated with >dignity and respect, not just in Goa, but your warning >should already be second nature to every woman, not >just in Goa, but wherever they live and work and >travel. > > >As the daily news surely reminds us, sexual predators >exist in every society in the world. > > > > > > > >------------------------------
