Pilot' returns wallet with Rs 1 lakh HERALD CORRESPONDENT
CANACONA, APRIL 3 — In a rare display of honesty, a motorcycle pilot from Welwadda-Poinguinim found a wallet containing currency worth over Rs 1 lakh and returned it to its rightful owner without accepting any reward. Anand Devu Pagi was transporting a customer to Maxem-Loliem on Tuesday, when he noticed some currency notes in denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 by the roadside at Tamnem. Pagi stopped and collected the notes, before noticing a wallet nearby. He dropped the customer to Maxem-Loliem and returned to Poinguinim market. He found a driver's licence in the wallet and informed some people of Peddem-Loliem that the missing wallet has been left at Harish Tailor's shop in Poinguinim. Meanwhile, a woman was seen moving in Poinguinim bazaar in search of her son's missing wallet and Pagi eventually got in touch with her. The owner, Menino Telles, was ecstatic to find his wallet, which contained American dollars and Indian currency, all amounting to over Rs 1 lakh. Touched by Pagi's sincerity, Telles wanted to reward Pagi, but the motorcycle pilot politely declined the reward, claiming it was his moral duty to return the lost wallet, irrespective of the amount of money it contained. Meanwhile, Pagi's wife, Ashma, a teacher at a Poinguinim school said she was proud of her husband's honesty in returning the missing wallet to its rightful owner.
