Roy takes charge of Panjim HERALD SPORTS REPORTER PANJIM, APRIL 3 — The Sports Authority of Goa has posted NIS badminton coach Roy Athaide at Panjim in what is essentially a "make-shift" arrangement.
Roy Athaide takes over from Roshanlal Nahar, whose one-year contract with the SAG culminated last month. "Roy has already started training the players, at Campal," SAG Executive Director V M Prabhudessai told Herald late on Thursday evening. "Roy's appointment at Campal is a make-shift arrangement. We are in the process of identifying a permanent coach," he continued. The SAG ED said they were waiting to hear from SAI Coach Rajiv Bhargava if he was willing to work at the Campal centre, or else, the SAG would request SAI to depute a replacement. "We cannot post Roy at Campal as it will be grave injustice to the players he is training at the Mapusa centre. He is grooming some good players and must continue the good work in Mapusa," emphasized Prabhudessai. Meanwhile, under-fire coach Roshanlal Nahar is understood to have met SAG Executive Director V M Prabhudessai and told him that he no longer wants a contract extension. "Roshanlal met me and spoke his mind. He does not want to continue," the SAG ED confirmed on Thursday amidst reports that the Goa Badminton Association had withdrawn a previous letter seeking extension of Roshanlal's contract.
