To Goanet - The Herald has also published this new item today. Goa should learn from Orissa which has been sending truckloads of migrants to Goa. While Orissa's migrants are mostly from Bengal, we in Goa get thw riffraff from all over India. The fresh arrivals are embraced by Babush, Digu and Ravi and instantly awarded voter cards. This fraud has to stop else Goans will be marginalized far more quickly than they imagine. See my other post - in Panjim the CCP actively encourages and shelters the migrants since they are both a source of hafta and a source of votes for the corporators.

Bengali-speaking settlers in Mahakalapada and Rajnagar blocks would now have to produce the proof to have settled in the areas for at least 20 years, they said. The centrally funded old-age pension, widow pension, disability pension besides public distribution system schemes would now be out of reach of Bengali speaking peoples living in these areas for less than two decades. We have already implemented 20-year nativity proof restriction in Mahakalpada and Rajnagar areas. Bengali-speaking applicants who were found wanting were not considered for these schemes, said Kendrapara collector Mr Kashinath Sahu. Block development officers of Mahakalpada and Rajnagar have been asked to ensure submission of nativity proof while sanctioning social security benefits to Bengali settlers. *****
